Pippy oak secretaire

Secretaire in pippy oak with fall flap and two glazed doors
This versatile little writing desk is made from solid "pippy" oak throughout, except for the veneered fall flap and back panel. The handles are dovetailed into the door frame.
Pippy oak is a knotty, hedgerow-grown variant of the native British oak. There are in fact two native species: sessile oak (Quercus petraea) or common or English oak (Quercus robur). In the timber trade, there's no essential difference in the appearance of either of these, but variations like the "pips" are prized.
